Dr. Belizario is currently a Professor of Public Health in the University of the Philippines Manila and has taught Tropical Medicine, Medical Parasitology and Public Health for close to 30 years. His research work have been focused on tropical and parasitic infections, malaria and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in the areas of epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, control and prevention. His various research outputs are featured in over 80 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals. A number of his research outputs have provided basis for formulation of national policy and practice guidelines on control of selected NTDs in the Philippines. After a short stint at the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific as Technical Officer for NTDs, he served as Undersecretary of the Department of Health of the Republic of the Philippines, where he headed the Technical Services Cluster. He is currently Editor of the Southeast Asian Journal of Tropical Medicine and Public Health and a member of the Editorial Boards of Geospatial Health and Acta Medica Philippina.
