Sharing critical care data for research and education: Experiences from the MIMIC project
Tom Pollard, MIT
Huge volumes of data are generated in hospitals daily, such as vital sign timeseries, laboratory test results, medical images, medication records, and bedside notes. Unfortunately, the potential of this data to educate researchers and improve patient care is typically limited by social and technical barriers that prevent sharing. In this talk we introduce our experiences of sharing critical care data around the world in the MIMIC project, highlighting both the challenges and the benefits.
